ITC Chilli Farmers - Certified for Sustainability

With ITC’s robust backward integration programme and extensive crop monitoring, small farmers in Andhra Pradesh have attained the global RFA certification.

For attaining the frog seal (certification), farms must meet stringent criteria of the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard. Farms are audited regularly to verify that farmers are complying with the standard’s comprehensive requirements, which require continual improvement on the journey to sustainable agriculture covering:

• Biodiversity conservation
• Improved livelihoods and human well-being
• Natural resource conservation
• Effective planning and farm management systems

Rainforest Alliance certification ensures that workers have fair wages and improved access to dignified living conditions, health care and education for their children. ITC chilli farmers produce with the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal supports a healthier planet and an improved quality of life for farming communities.

The initiatives supported by ITC include implementing technology for soil & water management, integrated pest management solutions, post-harvest management support, deploying skilled agir extension team to monitor agricultural practices and ensure quality control at every stage of the value chain.
