Now newspapers are in the news. Almost all of us at one time or another have had food wrapped in newspapers. It turns out that this could lead to toxicity.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an advisory to restrict the use of newspapers as food packaging material. It has included recycled fiber based boards in the same category.
Excerpts from the FSSAI advisory:
Thankfully, there is a solution. ITC's Wrapwell paper is both food-grade as well as oil & grease resistant. Next time, anyone tries to sell you food products wrapped in newspapers, politely decline. Insist on food-grade wrappers.
