The Global Reporting Initiative |
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a multi-stakeholder process whose
mission is to develop and disseminate globally applicable Sustainability Reporting
Guidelines. These Guidelines are for voluntary use by organisations while reporting the
economic, environmental and social dimensions of their activities, products and services.
The GRI involves the active participation of representatives from business, accountancy,
investment, environmental, human rights, research and labour organisations from around the
world. Started in 1997, GRI became independent in 2002. It is an official collaborating
centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and works in cooperation with UN
Secretary-General Kofi Annans Global Compact. |
|
GRI helps business organisations and their stakeholders elucidate their
contribution to sustainable development, which in turn defines their status and aligns
future goals. Sustainability reporting also helps the management define the
organisations contribution to natural, human and social capital. It highlights the
contributions of the organisation to society and to the environment, thereby defining the
value proposition of its products and services. For more information log on to: www.globalreporting.org |
