Significant Air Emissions |
All ITC units have state-of-the-art pollution control and monitoring systems and regularly
monitor air emissions to measure Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM), Sulphur Dioxide
(SO2), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and other pollutants. Additionally, the Bhadrachalam unit
also monitors Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) levels regularly. The measured levels have always
been well within stipulated norms. The average SPM levels of 1.04 kg/BDMT (Bone Dry
Metric Tonne) of paperboards in 2005-06 showed a reduction of 27% from 2004-05 emission
levels. The specific NOx emission was 0.69 kg per tonne of paperboard (9.2% less than the
previous year). |
|
The Cigarettes business brought down the SPM levels from 2.65 kg in 2004-05 to 1.65 kg per
million cigarettes in 2005-06. The average specific SO2 emission level measured at 2.48
kg/million cigarettes in 2005-06 showed a reduction of 37% from the previous year, while
NOx at 1.23 kg/million cigarettes showed 18% reduction from the previous year.
