ITC's Climate Smart Agriculture Programme: Helping Farmers Build Climate Resilience

Drawing on decades of close work with Indian farmers, ITC has designed practical solutions through its Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Programme to help farmers reduce climate risks and build resilience. The programme supports regenerative agriculture across ITC’s value chains and catchments through a package of agronomy practices, high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties, and nature-based solutions.

The ITC CSA Programme covers crops such as wheat, rice, soybean, onion, fruits and spices. It encourages farmers to adopt methods like zero tillage, direct-seeded rice, raised-bed planting, mulching, and alternate wetting and drying, among other practices.

The CSA programme is backed by ITC’s Life Sciences and Technology Centre (LSTC). Equipped with world-class scientific platforms and centres of excellence in Agroforestry and Crop Sciences, ITC LSTC is at the forefront of leading R&D efforts in building climate smart varieties.

In 2024–25, the CSA Programme benefitted 1.2 million farmers across nearly 3.2 million acres in 19 States, with a goal of expanding to 4 million acres by 2030.
