What happens when an entire community comes together to put children’s nutrition first?

2026-09-29

In Sialmari, a village in Assam, Anganwadi Sevikas, frontline workers, families and the wider community came together to make children's nutrition a shared priority. Through regular counselling, practical guidance on feeding and hygiene, and greater family and community participation, nutrition became a more visible and collective part of everyday life.

The impact was significant, with an 83% reduction in underweight prevalence, 72% reduction in wasting and 52% reduction in stunting, along with zero observed cases of severe acute malnutrition.

The inspiring story of Sialmari is part of a larger journey. Through ITC's Maternal Child Health & Nutrition Programme, 17 lakh community members across 12 states have been reached, supporting grassroots changemakers and strengthening community-led action towards a healthier India.

As we mark Poshan Maah 2026, Sialmari reminds us that lasting change in is built when awareness, frontline action and community ownership come together.
