The Indian Science Congress (ISC) has inducted Mr Y C Deveshwar, Chairman, ITC Limited and Dr M S Swaminathan, renowned agri-scientist, into the `Hall of Pride' at its is 93rd session in Hyderabad on January 3, 2006. Mr Deveshwar was honoured for his "yeoman service in transforming the Indian farmer into a progressive knowledge seeking netizen, elevating him to a new order of empowerment and revitalizing rural communities into vibrant economic organizations, through ICT''. Dr Swaminathan was honoured for pioneering the green revolution and his relentless efforts at eradicating hunger in India through increased agricultural productivity.
Since 2003, the Indian Science Congress has been felicitating an eminent business leader and an eminent scientist who have leveraged science and technology for improving the quality of life in India. Those honoured in previous years include Dr Vikram Sarabhai and Dhirubhai Ambani (2003), Dr Homi Bhabha and JRD Tata (2004) and Dr Raja Ramanna and Kasturbhai Lalbhai in 2005. This is the first time that the Indian Science Congress is felicitating two living legends.
