ITC has won the National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance 2006 from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. ITC received the award for its commendable performance along the “triple bottom line”, its strong corporate governance model and its visionary leadership. The award was presented in Chennai today by Shri Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu.

 

The award recognises leadership efforts of companies in establishing, following and promoting exemplary corporate governance practices. Mr Y C Deveshwar, Chairman, ITC Limited, commenting on the award, said, "Good corporate governance is at the very heart of long-term shareholder value creation. Premium will be placed on those companies that can create value both for society and for other stakeholders by contributing to the `triple bottom line' of economic, social and ecological capital.''

 

The jury was headed by Hon'ble Justice V N Khare and comprised eminent members like Mr Brijmohan Lall, Dr Bakul Dholakia, Mr Deepak Parekh, Dr JJ Irani and Dr Saroj Kumar Poddar, among others.
