ITC Presents Hauslon Ki Kahaani - Stories of Women Empowerment

Women have played a transformative role in shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future. Across rural India, they are stepping forward as leaders and change-makers through ITC’s integrated rural development initiatives.

Through women focused empowerment initiatives, ITC works to strengthen grassroots institutions like SHGs (self-help groups), build financial capability, and enable sustainable livelihoods for women entrepreneurs, while also supporting access to social security.

With the Government of India providing a special thrust through the SHE-Mart Mission to transform rural women into enterprise-owners, further momentum is being created for initiatives such as ITC’s integrated rural development programmes.

Women have also emerged as critical agents of community transformation. Many serve as grassroots leaders in roles such as Yojana Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, Krishi Sakhis, Village Health Champions, Mohalla Committee members, Water User Group members, and Vanikaran Sangha leaders, strengthening last-mile delivery of development outcomes.

Further advancing women’s economic leadership, ITC has supported the creation of several women-led Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) while also ensuring women’s representation on the Boards of more than 2,100 FPOs that ITC engages with.

Today, ITC’s diverse social investment programmes reach over 6 million women across India, spanning 10,000+ self-help groups with 120,000+ members across 10+ states. Through these platforms, women are building livelihoods across agri-business centres, nurseries, nano and micro-enterprises, custom hiring centres, and more.

Hauslon Ki Kahaani is a series bringing these efforts to life – celebrating the inspiring journeys of rural women who are turning collective strength into opportunity and stepping forward as entrepreneurs. From building financial awareness to learning key business strategies, each story captures a unique path towards self-reliance and a more secure future for their families and communities.
